Digital Outputs
Bus: PCI Express, PCI-X
Instruments: 14-bit Arbitrary Waveform Generators
The Digital Outputs option adds high-speed digital channels that can be generated synchronously with the analog signals. Often this is used to output events markers. This is a factory installed option.
If your application requires slow digital i/o to control external equipment or read/write status messages then please refer to the BaseXIO option.
How the Digital Outputs work
Two digital outputs are added for each DAC channel on the 14-bit Arbitrary Waveform Generator instruments. If the digital outputs are activated the digital bit data are first placed in the top bits of the 16 bit sample data, while the 14 analog bits are placed in the lower bits.
The digital outputs are therefore generated at the same sample rate as the analog outputs. There is no delay between the digital and analog samples.
The output voltage TTL compatible (Low ≤ 0.4V and High ≥ 2.4 V).
Physical
The additional of the Digital Outputs option adds a second PCI connector plate that contains the Hirose FX2 connector. The option is supplied with a 1m flat cable terminated with the FX2 connector and a standard 20-pole IDC socket connector. For OEM applications where the Digital Outputs need to be routed inside the PC chassis, a cable can be provided direct to the instrument card.
